- You sign or validate online a written mandate for your new telecoms operator. You mention in it that your new operator must ensure that you can keep your previous number.

- You can immediately transfer your telephone number to your new operator. Or: you can choose a date.
- Your number has been transferred after the agreed date?
In that case, you are entitled to an indemnity of 3 euros (sometimes 5 euros). It is not granted automatically. You have to request it from your new operator. You have 6 months to do so.

Reimbursement of prepaid credit
When you change your mobile operator and keep your previous number, if you use a prepaid card, you may ask your previous operator to reimburse you the remaining credit on your card.
This request shall be introduced in the month following the number transfer.
The remaining credit is the unused amount of your last top-up, excluding bonuses you may have been given during that top-up.
Check your previous operator’s website in order to know which means it offers to introduce that request as well as the reimbursement conditions.
In any case, your former operator may charge you €5 of administrative fees for the operation.
That amount is not subject to VAT.
Can you keep your e-mail address?
You have an e-mail address without a domain name from your current telecoms operator
For instance: you have your own domain name (jean@dupont.be) or you use a Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo... address.
You can always keep that e-mail address.
You have an e-mail address with a domain name from your current telecoms operator
For instance: jean.dupont@skynet.be, jean.dupont@telenet.be...
You can keep that email address for 18 months, free of charge, but you do have to request this before your subscription ends. Your operator has to offer you one of the following options:
- • keep on using your email address for 18 months.
- • immediately discontinue your previous email address but the operator does forward your emails sent to the old address to your new one for 18 months.
During that time, you provide your contacts with your new email address.
You can have the system chosen (by your operator) continue after those 18 months but your previous operator may charge for that.
The renewal after 18 months is not automatic. You have to request the renewal yourself.
